RNA FOLDING
How does an RNA sequence specify a functional structure, and how does the molecule find the structure with sufficient speed and accuracy to function in vivo?
We are using catalytic RNAs including group I and group II introns to address these questions.
RNA CHAPERONES
DEAD-box proteins are required for essentially all RNA-mediated processes. They function by coupling ATPase activity to single-stranded RNA binding.
We are studying how DEAD-box proteins use their basic properties to function as RNA chaperones.
